Crazy Write-ups in Shodalap

Abdullah Al Amin

Dear Editor:

I am writing in this forum for the first time. In the beginning I came to Shodalap to hear some sane voices of Bangla-speaker Muslims, not the Islam-bashing hate-mongering of some atheist zealots. But now-a-days it seems that the Shodalap forum is also being "hijacked" by those same gang shouting aloud in other forums. Where are the original writers of Shodalap? Where is the Editor? If there is not enough sane writers, it would be better to increase participation from the early writers, rather than sit idle and say nothing in response to the ramblings of the like of Md. Jamilul Bashar. I will not try to argue with this man for everything he says, but suffice it to say that this man might have some serious psychological problems. Otherwise he would not write on things he has only half-knowledge about. And he writes with wrong grammar and an awkward style. I think this may be intentional as the serious reader is easily put off by his error-prone multi-colored style, so nobody takes him seriously or protests in the Forum. I suggest people measure the IQ of this man from his write-up on the infidels insulting the Quran. He says that the Arabic language contains words from other languages of the subcontinent such as Urdu and Hindi, and he gives a long list of examples to show his knowledge. Bravo! Who does not know that the word ‘Iman’ and ‘Kitab’ exist in both Arabic and Urdu, therefore the Arabic language must have taken those words from Urdu and Allah put the same words in the Quran. Great knowledge Mr. Bashar, but sorry that this weird logic of yours show the extent of your knowledge/mental state when you write your ramblings. No need to say anything more than just reminding that the language Urdu developed more recently borrowing many words from Arabic and Hindi, not the way around. I think the recent low quality of write-ups (from a sane, moral and islamic viewpoint) is a wake-up call for good writers, not to sit idle and be busy with day to day lives, while the junk writers get the most voice. Especially, people have started issuing flowery praises to a novel (Dream city NY) as if it is a new Tagore in the rising. While the piece may show some aspects of life of immigrants, the generalization is too much. Not all religious people are crooks, and not all secular people are angels. Immoral sex is kind of spice for novels with a bad story, and the writer uses them a plenty, not even considering that such events are so rare in the majority of Bangladeshis. Illicit relationship in the absence of the husband going for pilgrimage? Moulovi sexually molesting child? May be it is a big news, but it is news because it is so rare compared to Christians. News may be part of a magazine story, but where it comes in a novel, that is supposed to draw a picture of life as it is, tell some higher truth of life. Think of something eternal, then you are totally disappointed. May be next try, Mr. Bahauddin. Finally, I wish that Shodalap remains a place of what the name stands for, good, benefiting talk, that encourage one to be honest, modest and moral. For Islam-bashing and hate-mongering, people should go elsewhere.

Thanks and regards,

Abdullah Al Amin
